What is 'ligament calcification' in the following case please?

Lady, aged 45, had pain under armpits for 2 years. Xray of area today revealed 'ligament calcification'. She also has pain in other shoulder and right hip. Her GP did not explain what this is and she is very frightened. He suggested Physios should try to "elongate" her ligaments. Does anyone have any knowledge of this and what might help/hinder her path to coping with the condition? She has been on HRT for 2 years. Hysterectomy 2006.
