Why do the people of the USA believe falsely that raising taxes is about raising revenue?

They don't believe it is about raising revenue. They believe the higher taxes will somehow end up in their wallet or purse in the form of a check and magically make their life better. The rhetoric has them fired up. Economic retardation.
